Today is Groundhog Day...Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring because he didn't see his shadow. That's just the 16th time since 1887 that the groundhog named for the town in Pennsylvania that has this annual event has not seen his shadow. Could it portend an early pick in the 2011 draft for the Bruins? We'll see about that.
The NHL resumed its regular season Tuesday night after All-Star weekend, and Boston got a big win in Carolina (thanks to Tim Thomas) and even though the Toronto Maple Leafs broke their three-game skid via shootout win over the Panthers, they allowed Florida to come back and secure a point, making it a pyrrhic victory.
Also the Devils and Islanders won, meaning they keep pace with the Leafs. The likelihood of them passing the Leafs in the standings is slim, but as the teams ahead of Toronto continue to put distance between them, the chances of moving up and out of the bottom-five is a tougher chore for the Leafs as well.
It's time to get back to the 2011 NHL draft prospects...this has been a fun diversion, but the show must go on.
